Guild Connect

This section provides basic instructions on setting up Guild Connect for use on Aenigma raids. This is a mandatory tool for all raiders that provides distributed log parsing with timers and triggers.

Download and installation

  • Download the Guild Connect updater from http://gc.progvo.com/crushbone_aenigma/GC-Update.zip and save it to somewhere accessible. Note that the Guild Connect package is uniquely put together for each subscribing guild, so using any other download location for a Guild Connect client will likely not work.
  • · Extract the downloaded zip archive. The folder in to which you extract will be the location to where the rest of the Guild Connect files are downloaded and from which the application is run. If you're using UAC in Windows Vista or Windows 7 then make sure the location you select is writeable without administrative priviledges so as to avoid problems with file permissions in the future.
  • · Open the folder where you extracted the zip archive and run the 'Update.exe' program.
  • · Wait patiently while the updater retrieves the required files. On completion of the download, the updater will automatically invoke the application.
  • · For subsequent use of the application, you may care to make a shortcut to the 'Guild Connect.exe' program on your Start Menu or Desktop for convenience. It is not necessary to run the updater again unless instructed to via our forums in the case of a required update.

Configuration

  • · When the application is first run, which will happen automatically when the updater completes, it will attempt to automatically find your EverQuest 2 log file folder. In almost all cases, it should find this correctly.
  • · You will be prompted for a username and password to use to log in. Speak to Cynosure in order to get an account created if you know you will be raiding. Please aim to have got the application installed and configured prior to your first raid day, so as to avoid any undesirable delays on the day.
  • · The first item of note is the application's always-on-top chat window. This mini-window should be moved to a convenient location over your EverQuest 2 user interface where it can be readily observed during raid encounters. Important triggered events requiring your action will be displayed here. If you accidently close the window, you can reopen it by going to the 'View' menu and choosing 'Chat'.
  • · When activity is detected in any of your EverQuest 2 log files, Guild Connect will show a message indicating parsing has been turned on for that log file. You can verify correct logging by hovering over your name in the right pane and ensuring the server and character name in green is showing. If you notice another player's logging isn't working, do point it out to them; it is critical everyone is logging correctly.
  • · In the event that your logging doesn't appear to be working, there are two things to check. Firstly, from the 'File' menu, choose 'Settings'. On the 'General' tab, in the 'EQ2Log' section, ensure the right folder has been entered. If it has not, choose 'Add' and browse to the right folder. Secondly, in the EverQuest 2 client, in the options, go to the 'User Interface' page, and in the 'Chat Window' section, check the box 'Log chat text' if it is not. If you're still unsuccessful, ask a fellow player for advice.
  • · You may find that some of the built-in sound and text announcements for certain activities are not relevant to you. If you wish to disable either the sound or text for these particular items, from the 'File' menu, choose 'Settings' and go to the 'Sound & Text' tab. In here, you may select the item you wish to suppress, and check the 'Disable Sound' or 'Disable Text' box for the item in question.
  • Note that AOE timers and trigger texts which are defined by the raid leader are not disableable. You can of course select the volume level for text-to-speech announcements as suits you.
  • Note also that there is a 'Private Triggers' tab within the settings which you can use to create notifications which are local to you only. You may find this useful for things occuring within the scope of just your group; for example, to notify on short-term buffs. Power users will likely prefer to use the ACT application instead.

Troubleshooting

  • · As most of the configuration for Guild Connect is stored server side, it is unlikely you'll encounter any problem with settings. If however, you wish to blow away anything you've done and reset all settings to default to start from scratch, you can browse to your 'Local Settings\Application Data\Progvo_Software' folder within your Windows user profile and delete the Guild Connect folder completely to achieve this.
  • If you have any problems you're unable to solve, make a post in the Guild Connect thread on our forum at http://forum.aenigma.eu/forum/index.php?topic=5413.0 explaining what you're having difficulty with. As the tool is mandatory in order to be allowed to attend raids, we'll assist technically in resolving any problems you may encounter. This is a paid-for service, so support can be escalated to the author as required.
